I am Devon John Chebra, a photojournalist, visual poet, and lover of the natural world. Using alternative photographic processes and repurposed art materials, I strive to create reminders for myself and my viewers of the magic and wonderment possible in the most mundane parts of our day.
My most recent explorations in chlorophyll printing and anthotype celebrate plants’ natural light-sensitivity so no added chemicals are needed. All of the resulting pieces remain delicate and unfixed, best preserved being tucked between the pages of a beloved book and only brought out when a little bit of magic is needed.
These messy, often baffling processes keep me curious and open to reimagine the more ordinary parts of life. If the wineberries growing in the overgrown edges of the neighborhood can be turned into a light-sensitive stain, and that stain can hold an image, even temporarily, what other possibilities might be hiding in plain sight?
